Compassion
Churches must recognize that within their own congregations are women silently carrying the weight of an unplanned pregnancy—often feeling alone, judged, or unsure where to turn. If they can’t find support in their church family, where will they find it? A 2015 Care Net study revealed that 40% of women who had an abortion were attending church at least once a month—but none of them spoke to their pastor about it. They didn’t believe the church would help. This heartbreaking reality calls us to respond with compassion, creating a space where grace, truth, and support are freely given.
Why Church Engagement is Vital
Referrals
Every believer should know where their local pregnancy center is—and be ready to share that information. In an informal study of 1,000 Christian high school and college students, 80% said they would refer a pregnant friend to Planned Parenthood. That cannot be the norm. Lack of awareness should never be the reason a woman’s first stop—or her first recommendation—is an abortion provider. Churches play a critical role in changing this by raising awareness within their congregations, equipping members with accurate, life-affirming resources, and helping build a strong, visible network of support that points women to hope and help.

Healing
Many women in our churches are quietly struggling with the weight of a past abortion—often wrapped in guilt, shame, sadness, or secrecy. They may sit in our pews every week, feeling alone and unsure of where to turn. Studies estimate that 1 in 4 people have been personally affected by abortion in some way, yet many don't feel safe enough to share their story within the church. When churches engage with grace and empathy, they become a refuge for healing—offering truth, restoration, and the hope of the Gospel to those who need it most.

Together We Can
Create a culture that values the sanctity of human life
Churches can help spread the message about Network of Life/Women’s Choice Network - who we are, where we are, and the services we offer. By sharing information about us they can demonstrate to the women in their church that they will support them should they experience an unexpected pregnancy. And through our Breathe: Post-Abortion counseling program, those who have been affected by abortion can find healing and hope through Jesus.
